What a national switch means for banks, EMIs and PIs
One connection to the national switch replaces a separate connection to every other institution.
Without a shared switch, every institution that wants to accept another institution's cards needs its own agreement and its own technical connection with that institution.
A national switch changes the shape of the problem. Each institution connects once, and the switch routes every transaction to the institution that has to answer it.
In Afghanistan that switch is APS, the Afghanistan Payments System. Banks, EMIs and PIs are connected to it.
Baran Switch is integrated with APS, so an institution on the Baran platform reaches the others through that one connection.
