Issuer and acquirer: the two sides of every transaction
Every card transaction has an institution that accepts it and an institution that answers for the card. Many institutions are both.
The acquirer is the institution whose ATM, POS machine or app accepts the transaction. The issuer is the institution that issued the card, account or wallet and decides whether to approve it.
When a customer uses their own bank's ATM, one institution plays both roles. When they use another bank's ATM, the transaction travels from the acquirer through the national switch to the issuer and back.
A platform that covers only one side leaves an institution with half a service. The Baran platform supports every transaction in its set on the issuer side and on the acquirer side.
